Climate impacts are intensifying, trade flows are shifting, and the global economy is becoming more multipolar. Against this backdrop – innovative trade models and market incentives will catalyse climate action. Carbon credit markets are one tool that can support greenhouse gas mitigation. Putting a price on pollution and generating credits through projects that reduce emissions – like reforestation, renewable energy or wetland restoration – will help us to achieve net zero by 2050.

But how are these markets progressing in practice? How do we ensure environmental integrity along the way? Decarbonisation deals are another tool that can support rapid emissions reduction. Decarbonisation deals are negotiated arrangements between willing governments, with industry as delivery partners, to align emissions reduction, trade, investment and industrial policy in support of a longer-term prospect for supply chain and market development.
