Recent meetings
4 – 5 April 2023
- The ICCN outlined its work plan for 2023, including themed discussions, the objectives of the just adaptation working group, and planning for COP 28.
- Councils discussed governance matters, including resourcing of the network and membership criteria.
- Members participated in break-out room discussions on a range of topics, including council relationships with external audiences and the co-benefits of climate transition.
4 – 5 October 2022
- Members discussed the draft briefing notes prepared by the 5 working groups and agreed on next steps for their publication. The ICCN agreed that the just adaptation working group will continue to meet on an ongoing basis.
- Dr. Edwin Castellanos, Coordinating Lead Author, IPCC 6th Assessment Report provided keynote remarks on how ICCN can use and communicate the findings of the IPCC. Dr. Britta Rennkamp, Senior Researcher, University of Cape Town, provided keynote remarks on the Just Energy Transition Partnership.
- The ICCN discussed governance issues, including preparations for COP27, resourcing, and steering committee membership.
- Members learned about climate policy analysis tools that could be useful in their work.
27 – 28 April 2022
- Members shared their experiences with building durable progress for climate policy through uncertainty, conflict, and instability and with developing pathways to net zero and other long-term targets
- Members discussed activities to expand the ICCN and encourage the formation of new councils, to form working groups on international dimensions of climate policy, and to engage through the ICCN on upcoming climate milestones.

- Members discussed strategic objectives and priority activities for 2022.
28-29 September 2021
- Members shared their experiences with tracking progress in mitigation and adaptation, working with subnational stakeholders to deliver climate change policy, costing climate action (and inaction), and advising on just transition.
- Members discussed the ICCN’s Terms of Reference and planned activities for COP26.
18-19 May 2021
- Members shared their perspectives on the role of Climate Councils in bridging science and policy, best practices and challenges for climate councils, and future priorities for individual councils and the network.
