Positive Impact of Climate Councils

We are seeking case studies that help validate the climate council model, focusing on the most positive impact of climate councils in their jurisdiction. These may be used in the ICCN annual report to be published at COP31, or in other ICCN comms products throughout the year.

Our primary aim is to receive case studies that show what is the significant real-world outcome of climate councils. This could be:

A recent example of government accepting one of your council's recommendations or implementing your policy advice that will translate into future emissions reduction, cost-savings, improved lives of citizens
A historic example of policy advice being followed, which is now translating to real-world impact in terms of emissions reduction, cost-savings, improved lives of citizens.

A secondary aim is to showcase how climate council models support better decision-making.

Please list one to two examples of what the real-world impact your council has had. At this stage you DO NOT need to draft a full case study that is ready to be published. Instead please just provide a summary plus weblinks to reports and articles that help illustrate your examples. Max 1,500 characters per example (approx 250 words per case study). The Secretariat then may interview you to understand the example in more detail.

Please list one to two examples that show how climate councils support better decision-making (e.g. successfully convening stakeholders to build consensus, impactful advice that has been used by Parliament/Government/Business/). Please list one to three examples showcasing the value of good governance. Feel free to include links. Max 1,500 characters per example (approx 250 words per example). Again you DO NOT need to draft a final case study at this stage.

Positive Impact of the ICCN

We are seeking case studies that help show the value of ICCN to its members, which may either be used in ICCN’s annual report and/or in concept notes to potential funders.

Primarily we are looking at case studies that show a significant real-world outcome, past, present or future. This could be:

A recent example of government accepting one of your recommendations or implementing your council’s policy advice
A historic example of policy advice being followed, which is now translating to real-world impact in terms of emissions reduction, cost-savings, improved lives of citizens

COP31

The ICCN has booked the Akra Hotel in Antalya as a venue for an ICCN Member Forum for morning and lunch of Saturday 14^th November (to avoid conflicts with the main UNFCCC programme, and to allow delegates attending week 1 or week 2 to join). We will also likely organise / participate in side events to launch our annual report and showcase climate councils.

Modelling

Credible modelling tools are essential tool for climate councils to fulfil their advisory roles. This may be on GHG emissions, policy scenarios, climate risk or sector-specific models. Below are a few high-level questions on your council’s approach to “modelling”. The ICCN is exploring further peer learning opportunities around modelling tools and approaches.
